Based in the area of Sandton in Johannesburg, South Africa, Montecasino is a hotel, casino and leisure complex that covers 26 hectares of land in total.
Montecasino is owned and operated by Tsogo Sun, who also own the Southern Sun Palazzo Hotel on the premises of the casino. As well as the casino and hotel, the complex also contains a variety of attractions including The Pivot, an exotic bird park, a theatre and more.
The Design and Theme of Montecasino
The Montecasino establishment was designed by the American company Creative Kingdom Incorporated, who designed Montecasino after the Tuscan village of Monte Cassino.
The entirety of Montecasino displays this theme, and the casino and surrounds have been built to resemble a historical village in Tuscany. The main casino building has even been created to look like the cobbled streets of a small town, and a colour-changing painted sky can be seen throughout the complex.
Main Attractions and Dining at Montecasino
Some of the attractions that have been built alongside the casino include an exotic bird and animal park and the Hyundai Air Balloon, which is operated by Aerial Displays.
Several award-winning restaurants and eateries can also be found at Montecasino, including Ciao Baby Cucina, Verdicchio, The Meat Company and La Scala. A food court at The Pivot mall offering fast food and casual dining venues is also available, and the Montecasino cinema can also be found here.
Montecasino Casino Gaming Facilities
The casino at Montecasino offers both smoking and non-smoking facilities that include one non-smoking and two smoker friendly casinos. In total, the casino offers over 1,800 slots and video poker machines, as well as 70 casino game tables.

The Teatro and Events at Montecasino
Montecasino is home to the Teatro, which is currently the largest theatre in South Africa. This Lyric theatre can seat as many as 1,870 people, and hosts regular international and local performances, shows and exhibitions. Opened in May of 2007, the Teatro is well known as being one of the 10 largest Lyric theatres in the world.
A variety of prestigious exhibitions, food festivals and events are also held at the premises of Montecasino and the Teatro throughout the year, ranging from wine and oyster festivals to bridal fairs, musicals and competitions.
