The Casting of Casino Royale
Pierce Brosnan announced in 2004 that he will not be playing in the new films. At one stage there was a selection of over 200 people that were considering to replace Brosnan. Daniel Craig previously declined the role as he thought that the series had become clichéd. Upon reading the script he changed his mind, stating that the new Bond is grittier and based more on the novels.
The only cast member to be carried over from previous films was Judi Dench. She portrays M, the head of the organisation MI6. Eva Green was selected as Vesper Lynd, Bond’s love interest. Mads Mikkelsen played Le Chiffre, the villain and Ivana Milicvic, his Henchwoman. The famous Miss Moneypenny does not make an apparance in this film.
